Bennett is a high school student at Christ School in Arden, NC. His favorite subjects are math and science. He is an active participant in the Boy Scouts of America, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 2013 at age 12. Since his first exposure to Boy Scouts, Bennett has frequently attended troop events and service projects, and has earned over 85 merit badges. At Christ School, he is a participant on the JV Soccer and Little Greenies Basketball teams, and participates in the Outdoor Program as well.
Bennett is his grades’ representative on the Christ School Honor Council. He is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s national honor society. He has earned his lifeguard and CPR certification, and works at Blue Ridge Crossfit during the summer.
Bennett is working to earn the William T. Hornaday Silver Medal, the most valuable conservation award in Boy Scouts. In the past eighty years, approximately 1,100 have been awarded. To earn this award, the candidate must complete four large conservation projects, and earn a large number of conservation-related merit badges. To read more about the award, click here. He has designed a website as part of the promotion process for his first project, an effort to create birdhouses for a species of bird called the brown-headed nuthatch in North Carolina.
